I got a super exciting commission to design seven repeat patterns for a new independent children clothing brand.
The client wanted them all to have a dreamy, magical and woodland like vibe.
This is the sketch for one of the patterns. The theme was tree house. I wanted this pattern to be soft so I choose a colour palette of creams and browns, with a bright yellow and a soft pink for accents.
For one of the patterns, I choose very soft look that would go well in different garments and that would be very easy to match with other clothes.
For another one, the client wanted a dark background with mushrooms and other plants. I choose to add a white rabbit to create contrast with the dark background and to give a sort of Alice in Wonderland vibe. I also wanted to have red and blue elements in order to achieve a vivid colour palette and create a bold pattern.
The client also wanted a bold pattern with dancing animals all over a dark background, so I choose to draw foxes and bears so I could have a strong colour contrast between the blue background and the orange/warm animals. I also added a white rabbit for composition and to create a balance between the orange and blue.
And for the last pattern, I was asked to create a flowery scenery with woodland animals. I choose to add some yellowish foliages to match the dusty pink background, and I tried to incorporate the dusty pink in all the animals to create a concise look.
